BUTTERFLY GARDENING LECTURE: OCTOBER 11 (9:30am - 11am)

Do you love looking at butterflies? This class will cover the basics of butterfly gardening as well as go over some common butterflies and butterflies plants. Participants will take a tour of Butterfly Hill. The class will be led by Linda Burleson, Master Gardener.

The class is included in the admission into the park and the ticket simply allows you to reserve a seat in the class. Pay the $8 entrance fee into Kanapaha Botanical Gardens at the greeting desk (free if you have a membership). In addition to attending the class, you will be able explore the rest of the gardens before or after the class.  Hosted by UF IFAS Alachua County Extension Master Gardeners.

AUDUBON TOUR: OCTOBER 14 (9am START TIME)

Come join us for this special tour by the Audubon Society and learn about the birds of Kanapaha. Bring binoculars and arrive promptly at 9am. This tour offers admission into the Gardens at half price, $4 per person. Members are admitted free of charge.

FALL PLANT SALE & ORCHID SHOW: OCTOBER 21 & 22 (9am-5pm)

Each October, Kanapaha Botanical Gardens holds an Open House & Fall Plant Sale, in conjunction with the Gainesville Orchid Society, inviting visitors to see the facility ADMISSION FREE. Kanapaha Botanical Gardens formally opened to the public in October of 1986 and the Open House is a means of celebrating our 'birthday.' In addition to viewing the botanical gardens, approximately 50 booth will be set up selling a wide variety of plants. The American Orchid Society will have their annual American Orchid Society's judged show that will coincide with the Fall Plant Sale and will take place inside Kanapaha's entrance building. Bring cash because most vendors do not accept credit cards. Pets are not allowed at these festivals.

GUIDED WALK: JANUARY 6 (10am - 12pm)

CAMELLIA SHOW: JANUARY 6 (1pm-5pm) -7 (9am-4pm)

This two day event features prize-winning camellias of all sizes, shapes, and colors. There will be judged exhibits of japonicas, reticulatas, hybrids, and species. In addition to their outstanding winter beauty, some of the varieties are fragrant. This show is geared toward educating the public about the care, culture, and appreciation of camellias, both in the greenhouse and in the landscape. Regular admission price for non-members and members are admitted free of charge. BAMBOO SALE: JANUARY - FEBRUARY 19

Every winter, Kanapaha holds an Annual Winter Bamboo Sale. In December, Kanapaha issues a descriptive sales/availability listing of bamboos that are being offered during January and February on a dug-to-order basis.

How to order...

Orders for bamboo may be phoned in to 352-372-4981. Buyers will be advised of the date orders will be ready for pickup and payment will be needed when orders are placed. There are no refunds issued after the bamboo has been dug. Bamboo Sale is in January and February only. Order are prioritized by the date the customer is willing to come pickup the bamboo since some orders may exceed availability. Last day for placing orders is February 19th and the last day for picking up bamboo is February 25th. For more info, click here

SPRING GARDEN FESTIVAL: MARCH 24 (9am - 5pm) & 25 (9am - 5pm)

This is Gainesville's premier horticultural event. The Spring Garden Festival features about 150 booths offering plants, landscape displays, garden accessories, arts and crafts, educational exhibits and, of course, foods. Also featured are live entertainment and live auctions. The children's area is included with the admission price and includes potting up a plant to take home, a photo opportunity, a bean bag toss, and many arts and crafts. Parking is free and off-site parking areas are serviced by shuttle buses. Admission is $8 for Adults and $5 for children three to thirteen. Cash only (no credit cards) at these events. A $2 discount is given for members of Kanapaha. No pets allowed during the festival please. For more info, click here
