Bamboo Sale: January & February 2015

Every winter, Kanapaha holds an Annual Winter Bamboo Sale. In December, Kanapaha issues a descriptive sales/availability listing of bamboos that are being offered during January and February on a dug-to-order basis.

HOW TO ORDER BAMBOO...

Orders for bamboo may be phoned in to 352-372-4981. Buyers will be advised of the date orders will be ready for pickup and payment will be needed when orders are placed. There are no refunds issued after the bamboo has been dug. Bamboo Sale is in January and February only. Order are prioritized by the date the customer is willing to come pickup the bamboo since some orders may exceed availability. Last day for placing orders is February 23rd and the last day for picking up bamboo is March 1st.

Bamboo Workshop: January 24 (1:30 - 4pm) 2015

Every year the Director Emeritus of Kanapaha, Don Goodman, offers a bamboo workshop to acquaint homeowners with the bamboos. This workshop includes an introduction to Kanapaha's bamboo collection and information on the cultivation, propagation, and landscape utilization of bamboo species in North Florida. Included with regular admission cost to the gardens and members are admitted free of charge. As with all of our classes, price also includes admission into the gardens.

Spring Garden Festival: March 21 (9am - 5pm) & 22 (10am - 5pm) 2015

This is Gainesville's premier horticultural event. The Spring Garden Festival features about 175 booths offering plants, landscape displays, garden accessories, arts and crafts, educational exhibits and, of course, foods. Also featured are a walk-through butterfly conservatory, children's activities area, live entertainment and live auctions. Parking is free and two off-site parking areas are serviced by shuttle buses. Admission is $8 for Adults and $5 for children three to thirteen. Cash only (no credit cards) at these events. Easter Egg Hunt: March 29 (11am)

There will be 3000 candy and toy filled eggs spread over Kanapaha's expansive lawns for the youngsters to hunt. Bring a picnic basket for collecting the eggs. Show up promptly as children quickly find the the eggs. Come early and stay late to enjoy the 62 acre botanical gardens. Children $7 plus tax, Adults regular admission, Adult members get in free.

Moonlight Walk: May 2 (7pm-11pm) 2015

Kanapaha's Moonlight Walk is a magical experience where there will be twinkle lights, lanterns, and approximately 1500 luminaries along a 1.25 mile walkway. There will also be live entertainment, food, and refreshments. Feel free to bring out a blanket or lawn chairs. The Alachua Astronomy Club will be out with telescopes to view the cosmos. Fourteen dollars for adults, $7 for children ages three to thirteen. Members recive a $4 discount. No pets allowed during this event.

Paint Out: September 11 (10am-5pm) 12 & 13 (10am - 7pm) 2015

Local landscape artists will be gathering to create live paintings at Kanapaha Botanical Gardens. The 3 day event is part of the 13th Worldwide Artist Paint Out, linking artists and locations all over the world and promoting art as a universal language that has no borders. The lush settings and vistas of Kanapaha Gardens will offer the artists an abundance of inspiration. The gardens have long been a muse for the local creative community, and hosted in 2002 one of the very first paint outs in Florida. Since then, these events have seen an explosion of popularity and patronage. Come join us! Witness the mysterious creative process as you stroll through the gardens from artist to artist. They will marvel you with their sleight of hand as they magically create masterpieces before your very eyes! Regular admission price for non-members and members are admitted free of charge.

Fall Plant Sale and Orchid Show: October 17 & 18 (9am-5pm) 2015

Each October, Kanapaha Botanical Gardens holds an Open House & Fall Plant Sale, inviting visitors to see the facility ADMISSION FREE. Kanapaha Botanical Gardens formally opened to the public in October of 1987 and the Open House is a means of celebrating our 'birthday.' In addition to viewing the botanical gardens, approximately 50 booth will be set up selling a wide variety of plants. The American Orchid Society's judged orchid show will coincide with the Fall Plant Sale and will take place inside Kanapaha's entrance building. Bring cash because most vendors do not accept credit cards. Pets are not allowed at these festivals.

 

Veteran's Day Special: November 11, 2015

Active or retired military get into the Gardens FREE on Veteran's Day. Thank you for your services to this country!
